The Buxton Hitmen’s run of bad luck continued on Sunday with a final heat loss to visitors the Scunthorpe Saints.

The team who were without their top two riders; Charles Wright and Robert Branford managed to gain an early control of the meeting with a 5-1 in heat three from Adam McKinna and Luke Priest and remained un challenged until heat thirteen when leading 40-31 Scunthorpe hit back with a 1-5 from powerful duo Gary Irving and Ashley Morris.

This was followed up in heat fourteen with another 1-5 from Oliver Greenwood and Tommy Fenwick which took the score to a close 42-41 and placing all hopes on heat fifteen, just like last week’s meeting against Mildenhall. However McKinna and Bekker again had little impact on the Saints duo of Irving and Morris who took another 1-5 and thus winning the meeting by three points.

Manager Jack Lee spoke after the defeat “I’m so disappointed with today, it’s been the same for the last few meetings we can be leading by ten, then just mess up in the last few heats and throw it all away it’s so frustrating. We would be very lucky to make the playoffs now but all we can do is just keep trying to take a few points here and there. All the lads are really disappointed with today’s outcome and hopefully this will fire them up to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

There is no Speedway this Sunday and the team have a break until Sunday August 19th when Stoke come to town in the National Trophy.
