The Buxton Hitmen were desperate to get back to winning ways after last week’s heavy defeat at the hands of the Isle of Wight and certainly hit back this Sunday with a fantastic 58-37 victory over the USA Touring Team.

Despite two tactical rides from the visitors the Buxton side remained in control of the meeting throughout the afternoon and all riders showed a vast improvement from last week. Newcomer to Speedway Matt Williamson recorded his very first full maximum despite this being only his 3rd ever home meeting. Matt who made the move from Motocross to Speedway during the winter is looking to follow in ex Hitmen rider Craig Cook’s footsteps and certainly showed today that he’s set for big things. Hitmen team Captain Tony Atkin spoke after the meeting and said when new rider’s like Matt score well it gives the rest of the team a big boost “This is really how the National League should be, its not about filling it out with seven experienced riders, it’s about bringing kids through, that’s what it’s all about, and Buxton have always done that, and that’s one of the reasons why I wanted to come here. The likes of Matt and Tom, you thrive off their enthusiasm when you’re one of the more experienced riders and it’s great to be in a team with them and see them enjoying it and improving as the meeting’s go on.”

There is no home meeting next week as the team head to Mildenhall for the National Trophy. They are back in home action on Sunday 26th May against the Kent Kings.
