SCUNTHORPE 47 HITMEN 43

Sunday October 12, 2014
A thoroughly entertaining match between the league’s bottom two teams was marred by a heat two accident when Buxton’s improving reserve Stefan Farnaby was involved in a first bend crash which necessitated him being taken to hospital.

The Hitmen then reduced to just 5 riders on the night set about taking on a rejuvenated Stags outfit lead by unattached 3 pointer Ellis Perks who was for the second week running top scorer for his adopted new team. The youngster from the famous speedway Perks dynasty registering 18 points.

Buxton were once more ably lead by Tony Atkin with a paid 15 return including a couple of good passes when the team needed it. He was well backed by Ryan Blacklock and Tom Woolley. Reserve Paul Bowen was busy taking all Farnaby’s rides but scored his best haul in a Buxton Race Jacket with paid 10.

The result itself was in doubt until the final heat when a thrilling race saw the lead change hands several times before Perks secured the win for the home side. Buxton took the consolation of a league bonus point by keeping the deficit below 6 points.

The meeting which was a credit to all that was good about National League speedway provided some excellent racing. Both teams have improved since the campaign began in April this year.

Commented popular Hitman Tom Woolley ‘Well done to Scunthorpe on their first league win. Over the two weeks of racing against them we still managed more points! But credit to them they shaded a good meeting’

The Hitmen complete their National League programme at Plymouth on 25th October when they look to register their first away victory at Devon Demons.
