HITMEN 45 KING'S LYNN 47

Sunday October 18, 2015
It was supposed to be an end of season celebration at Hi-Edge however King’s Lynn hadn’t read the script! That coupled with an off-afternoon for too many of the home side combined to end all hopes of a Hitmen victory.

It took until heat 6 for Buxton to register a heat advantage when the evergreen Tony Atkin and Tom Woolley combined to register a 4-2. By heat 8 the visitors were 10 points up allowing team manager Jason Pipe to use Liam Carr as a Tactical ride. Carr who at that point had yet to win a race streaked from the tapes only for the initial running to be stopped when in-form King’s Lynn reserve Ryan Kingsley fell on the first Lap. In the re-run his partner Josh Bailey fell on the first bend handing Buxton an 8 – 0 victory bringing the match score to within two points.

From then on the meeting went one way then the other meaning the teams went into heat 15 with all 3 results still possible. The tension only lasted until the first bend when Ryan Blacklock appeared to tangle with Youngstars number one Tom Stokes however referee Stuart Wilson saw it differently and excluded the Hitman. The meeting was over and the points were on their way to East Anglia.

Post meeting Team captain Tony Atkin didn’t mince his words ‘That was a disgraceful performance and the supporters deserved better. I’d like to apologize to the supporters’

Jason Pipe was very disappointed and almost lost for words. ‘That was King’s Lynn’s first away win of the season and means that we will finish lower than I would have liked. Too many of our riders were off form and this is a meeting we should have won. I’m sure people will wonder why I gave Lewis (Millar) his National League debut but I make no apology for that, we must look to 2016. I also had an agreement with Jack Parkinson-Blackburn for him only to ride 3 National League meetings for us’

He did however promise the fans that teambuilding for 2016 would begin shortly and he would aim to assemble a team capable of a top half finish.

The 2015 team will get together one more time on 14th November for the presentation evening at the Winking Man pub Upper Hulme 7.30pm start. Tickets are available from the club.
